THE EMINENCE, Brisbane

Our lighting design for boutique commercial office building, The Eminence, Brisbane, was guided by prominent architectural features of the façade and interior spaces.

Perforated concertinaed screens cover the two end facades allowing some of the staggered balconies to be exposed, while other balconies remain enclosed. We created a lighting design which explored this sense of privacy and openness by back-lighting the screen in slightly random patterns and dappled the foliage of the balconies with light. Light is seen glistening behind the screen and glowing from within and creating dynamic forests of shadows on the exposed concrete soffits from the trees and foliage.

To accentuate the linear aspects of the street façade, a single linear LED strip is embedded in the awning on the street edge running the full length of the building to illuminate the pedestrian path. Continuing the linear motif we used linear strips of recessed LED at the main entry, and throughout the internal corridors and lift lobbies.

Fritted windows were randomly placed in the glazing of the street façade, these presented us with another opportunity within our lighting design, to backlight architectural elements.

The interior of the main foyer welcomes you with soft undulating curves. The curve of the ceiling continues into the café.  We enhanced and celebrated the beauty of the curves with our lighting design by washing light up on the facia of the curves and the ceiling, providing the main lighting of the whole foyer.

In the café area we created a forest of downlights scattered over the counter to illuminate produce and the working area. Wall lights were introduced as a decorative element and to provide additional light to the window bench.

The roof top terrace also has randomly scattered downlights in the overhead awnings, whilst other garden beds have small twinkle lights scattered throughout, in response to the twinkling stars of the night sky.

The Eminence has been awarded:
